The protagonist Arthur is a successful attorney. He doesn’t care who is defendant is – an innocent person or a jerk. His sole goal is winning. He considers life to consist of predators and prey. He is committed to never be the prey.
Mary is a translator of fiction. The young lady in a wheelchair lives in her closed world. She is nursed by her devoted admirer and beginner unsuccessful actor who is a friend of Arthur’s.
Meeting with her turns out to be another test in the life of the attorney. Anything she does makes no sense in his world. She makes him mad and annoys him. On top of all, she appears to be an active ring in the case that Arthur is leading.
She can change him. They can get the story to a logical finale with a happy end. He can end up a noble person concluding the path. However to achieve happiness he needs to commit another betrayal.
