Somewhere in Moldavia

Two of the most different yet having equal importance and dimensions cultures clash somewhere in Moldavia, the place that becomes in the year 2007 The Wild East for an English patrol-border agent whose mission is to collaborate with the Romanian Border Police.
The film follows the romantic story of an eccentric English border police officer (Daniel) with a full of life and poetry Moldavian woman (Violet) and on another plan, the pursue of catching in flagrant act an unconventional Catholic priest; everything told in playful, almost absurd situations, in which kindness, naivety, clumsiness, emotion and the innocence of the characters, compose a fresh and juicy film universe.
The characters easily engage full of humour debates about taboo subjects, on the topics of religion, politics or sexual options. One after another, there come references about Jewish community, not long ago a majoriy in the area, about Ceaușescu’s communism, the European Union seen on both perspectives (East and West), the obvious or sometimes hidden differences between Orthodoxy and Catholicism and a visionary talk about our time Brexit.
Being a native of Suceava, on the border with Ukraine, the director Ligia Ciornei writes a simple, yet full of life story that takes place in a familiar and personal environment. Her story becomes powerful due to its sincerity and perfect candour, and also to its original characters and situations.
